Independent drum maker, Hive Drums, return in 2023 for a second year at the UK Drum Show.
Hive Drums are based in the Surrey Hills; co-founded by Jon Bleasby-Voice and Matt Taylerson in 2020. Friends for over 20 years, both Matt and Jon are engineers by trade and share a passion for music and playing drums.
Specialising in bespoke aluminium snare drums, built from their small workshop in Surrey, Jon and Matt build shells using 3mm thick 5251 aluminium as they feel it delivers excellent dynamic range and sensitivity. A variety of highly durable powder-coat finishes are available and they produce a range of drum sizes.
Hive Drums debuted their first snare ‘The Worker’ at the UK Drum Show in April this year. The Worker was designed to serve the working drummer with a lifetime of reliability, durability and most importantly, great sound.
Since the show, their snares have caught the attention of many respectable drummers and their aluminium snares are revered for their warm, dry tones, wide tuning range and high sensitivity. They were recently reviewed by the legendary Mike Dolbear who suggested The Worker “stacked up very favourable against a similar model by one of the ‘big boys’” – and this is just the company’s first offering.
2023 will be an exciting year for Hive Drums as they open a new workshop giving them space to continue developing their drums. They also have several developments to look out for, including:
Jon and Matt are very excited to be joining the UKDS 2023 to show off their work on stand D32.
