Shahram Gholami is an Iranian born multi percussionist with over 30 years of professional experience whose style and playing is deeply rooted in the rich rhythmic traditions of Iranian Music.

Shahram’s journey began at the early age of six where he started playing the Darbuka and developing the lifelong passion for percussive rhythms. Over the years, he has expanded his musical vocabulary across a wide range of percussion instruments where he perfectly combines the distinctive sounds and techniques of Middle Eastern percussion with the energy, precision and versatility demanded by contemporary live performance.

Throughout his career, Shahram has performed and recorded alongside some of the leading names in Iranian music, including Bijan Mortazavi, Aref, Sattar, Martik, Mahasti, Moein and Andy. Shahram was also a former band leader for violinist, performer and composer, Bijan Mortazavi, directing the band for various concerts and international events.

As a percussionist, Shahram is known for his dynamic playing, musical sensitivity and impressive ability to adapt to different ensembles and styles. His impressive approach places rhythm at the heart of the performance, whether that is providing subtle accompaniment, driving an ensemble or stepping forward into the spotlight as a featured percussionist. His playing reflects both a deep respect for traditional Iranian rhythms and a wide appreciation of percussion as a global musical language.

Not only has Shahram’s hard work and dedication to the instrument seen him succeed onstage, it has taken him beyond the stage and into recording television. He has contributed to numerous musical productions and served as the band leader on Iranian television shows including ‘Don’t Forget The Lyrics’ and ‘The Singing Bee’, reaching huge audiences both within the Iranian community and internationally.

Now based in the UK, Shahram continues to perform, record and collaborate with musicians and writers globally. His career represents a unique connection between Iranian musical heritage and the wider world of modern percussion.

With his impressive career spanning over three decades, Shahram brings a wealth of experience, cultural knowledge and musical expertise to every performance. His passion for percussion remains as string as is was when he first picked up the Darbuka all those years ago. Continuing to explore, perform and share the music of his heritage with audiences and artists around the world.
