Sarah Westwood is a percussionist, soundbath practitioner and founder of Primal Sound, with more than 30 years’ experience bringing people together through rhythm and sound. Her work has taken her into corporate events, universities, community settings, retreats and wellbeing programmes across the UK, using music both as an energising shared experience and as a pathway into deep relaxation. In 2026, Sarah was also a TEDx presenter, bringing interactive rhythm to the TEDx stage.

Alongside her extensive work with African percussion and group drumming, Sarah has spent many years exploring the quieter, more meditative possibilities of sound. Her fascination with gongs was first sparked around 30 years ago during a Gamelan orchestra workshop, and they have since become central to her sound work. Her soundbaths combine gongs, singing bowls, cymbals, drums, chimes and other resonant instruments with guided relaxation, drawing on both her musicianship and long experience of wellbeing practices. She approaches a soundbath as a musician – listening, layering, creating contrast and allowing the soundscape to develop organically.

Through Primal Sound, Sarah now works with organisations and groups across the UK, creating experiences that range from large-scale interactive rhythm events to deeply restorative sound journeys. At the heart of all her work is a fascination with what sound can do – how rhythm can energise and connect us, and how resonance, vibration and stillness can help us find calm.
