Before graduating from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Matt Garstka toured with Gokh-Bi System a Senegalese band & was featured in Gospel Chops’ “Shed Sessionz Vol. 3”.

Garstka joined Animals as Leaders in 2012 adding complex, dynamic playing that blends polyrhythms, metric modulations, & influences from jazz, fusion, Latin & more. Garstka has graced the stage in over 72 countries for 14 years now. This work alongside projects like Victoria, Gem & Cosmic Liberty helped shape modern progressive drumming.

He’s been featured on the cover of Modern Drummer magazine twice, voted “Best Progressive Drummer” by MusicRadar readers & voted “Progressive Drummer of the Year” by Drumeo.

He endorses DW, Meinl, Vic Firth & Remo. He works as an educator offering Masterclass courses through his website at an affordable price. He is also known for putting on drum clinics worldwide where he breaks down complex rhythmic structures. Another arm of his education is working with young upcoming drummers at the SoMar Drum Camp.

Widely regarded as one of the most technically proficient & innovative drummers in the world, Garstka continues to push boundaries while maintaining a focus on musicality.
