Biography

Mike Johnston is an American drummer and educator from Sacramento California. He currently runs the world’s largest educational website for drummers, Mikeslessons.com, where he offers live and pre-‐recorded drum lessons. At the Mikeslessons.com facility, he hosts 10 International Drum Camps each year.

Mike Johnston began studying the drums at the age of 5. He spent the next fifteen years studying privately with drumming legends Pete Magadini, Steve Ferrone, and Will Kennedy.

At the age of 21 he received his first major label record deal with his band Simon Says and spent the next 5 years touring the world. He received a gold record for his contributions to the Varsity Blues soundtrack and has appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman as well as on MTV’s Fashionably Loud.

Mike left the touring world behind in 2006 and has focused solely on education ever since. Teaching and performing in hundreds of clinics an festivals over the past 10 years including the Meinl Drum Festival, P.A.S.I.C., The London Drum Show, The LaBag Show in Paris, and countless others.

In 2013 his website (www.mikeslessons.com) won DRUM Magazines award for educational website of the year, and in 2016 he received the Modern Drummer Readers Poll award for educator/clinician of the year.
