Nathan Shingler is the latest winner of the Mike Dolbear Young Drummer of the Year 2019 competition. Just 16 years old, Nathan has been playing drums for 11 years, with his current and biggest inspirations being Benny Greb, Shariq Tucker, Mike Mitchell and JD Beck. Nathan plays in several bands, but the most notable are James Broadfoot, an up and coming English artist and The Screaming Kicks Big Band, who are a youth big band based in Derby who he regularly gigs with; he also toured America late last year.
“Winning the competition is a dream come true for me, I’m hoping that playing in front of that calibre of judges and number of people will open up many options for me – I have already appeared on BBC TV (Midlands Today). “ “Being in the final of YDOTY has meant that I have been able to network with some amazing people and I’m looking forward to pushing my playing to the next level.”
Nathan would like to extend his thanks to the amazing sponsors of the event (Sonor Drums, Meinl Cymbals, Evans Drumheads). “I’ve won some incredible prizes enabling me to play the gear I’ve been wanting to play and also to network with the people involved in the companies.”
“Having the opportunity to get the exposure that winning gives me is a massive privilege and I am grateful to everyone involved in the competition for giving me the opportunity to perform at incredible events like this year UK Drum Show in Manchester.” Nathan Shingler
