Josh is appearing in association with Yamaha, Meinl and Vic Firth.
Josh Dion, hailing from Storrs Connecticut, grew up playing drums beside his father and uncle, both drummers. With a hearty vinyl collection of Classic Rock, Blues, and Big Band within reach he found his influences early. Other childhood interests included Dixieland (history of jazz), Pentecostalism and Funk which further affected his understanding of music, energy and its possibilities.
As a young student Josh had an amazing band director named Kay Niemasik who taught him all 12 keys and scales on the piano (which he still kind of remembers!) thus beginning his exploration of the piano.
Josh attended William Paterson University from 1999-2002, majoring in jazz studies. After college he fronted and wrote for the Roots/Rock ensemble Josh Dion Band from 2004-2009. They recorded 3 albums together.
Aside from creating original work Josh has played and recorded with an array of great talents including The Jim Campilongo Trio, Wayne Krantz, Chuck Loeb, Lucius, Esperanza Spalding, Candy Dulfer, ulu, Zach Danziger’s Test Kitchen, Standard Candle, Bernie Worrell, Ivan Lins and Bill Evans. He cites playing “Frankenstein” with Edgar Winter as a career highlight.
Currently, you can find Josh fronting the Garage/Synth duo paris_monster.
