Bob is appearing in association with Yamaha, Zildjian, Vic Firth and Remo
A Yorkshireman living in London Bob Knight began playing drums at 6 years old. He grew up playing Blues, Rock and Funk inpubs/clubs before finding a love for jazz and big band. At 18 he got the only place available at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music to study jazz and graduated four years later.
Embracing his love for popular music and groove drumming he forged ahead in his career and has made a name for himself working with artists including: James Taylor, Nik Kershaw, The Pogues, Michael Bublé, Josh Groban, Nicole Scherzinger, Jason Derulo, Cee Lo Green, Alison Moyet, Rumer, Charlotte Church, Mick Taylor, Kirsty MacColl, Ben Haenow, Michael Nyman, Incognito and many more.
He has appeared on every major UK TV show (often numerous times) and many abroad including the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He was also the bandleader for the TV house bands on the Charlotte Church Show and The Justin Lee Collins Show and ‘An Evening with Donny & Marie’ for ITV.
I play Yamaha drums and Zildjian cymbals – I have since I was 12 years old. Why? Because I grew up listening to them and admiring the great players who all did the same. Vinnie, Gadd, Erskine, Weckl, Cozy, Manu, JR, Andy Newmark, Ed Soph, Rick Marotta, Dave Mattacks, Omar Hakim, Bissonette all played that combo and I loved that the same kit could be used in so many different styles of playing and genres of music.
I have been with both companies since I was in my very early 20s and they have been fantastic in supporting my career. I’m currently using the all new Recording Custom series drums in various configurations and I’m constantly blown away by how brilliant it sounds and I’m thrilled to have played a small part in its reinvention. I play Aquarian heads, by far the most consistent and hard wearing of any head I’ve tried and am very proud to be both a Vic Firth and Protection Racket endorsee.
